Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Ruger No. 1 is a distinctive single-shot rifle featuring a Farquharson-style hammerless falling-block action. Manufactured by Sturm, Ruger & Co. since 1966, this rifle is operated using an underlever that both lowers the breechblock for loading and cocks the action. Ruger's chief engineer, Lenard Brownell, praised the rifle’s robust construction, recalling how he struggled to damage the action during testing, noting, "There was never any question about the strength of the action. I never did manage to blow one apart." The rifle also includes a shotgun-style tang safety that controls both the hammer and sear. The No. 1 is offered in a variety of configurations, including models with an Alexander Henry, beavertail, or Mannlicher-style forearm, and is available in a wide range of calibers.
