Item Description

Bryant Ridge Auction Company is pleased to present this BEAUTIFUL semi-automatic rimfire rifle for a penny-start auction today; this is the Weatherby Mark XXII Deluxe!

The Beretta XXII model was originally manufactured in Italy from 1964 to 1971. The KTG-Japan produced the XXII from 1967 to 1971 with a "J" serial number prefix. Nikko-Japan produced the XXII from 1972 to 1980 with the "N" serial number prefix for the clip model and the "T" prefix for the tube feed model. Nikko was the first one to make the tube feed models and the first to have laser checkering, which is desired by some collectors, as well as wood spacers between the stock and rosewood and the improved rear sight that folds down.

This example was manufactured in 1977 and bears the serial number N56088.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
In the book "Weatherby, The Man. The Gun. The Legend." by Grits and Tom Gresham, it is mentioned that Roy Weatherby introduced the Weatherby rimfire in 1960. The rifle, known as the Mark XXII, was initially based on a Beretta design with several enhancements guided by Weatherby. It was first manufactured by Beretta in Italy and showcased at tradeshows in the winter of 1961–62, where it received numerous orders. However, manufacturing issues led to problems with the rifles' function and finish. The production was then outsourced to KGT and Nikko in Japan from 1967 to 1980, Mossberg in the United States from 1979 to 1982, and Howa in Japan from 1984 to 1988. The rifle shown in the book, based on its serial number, was manufactured by Howa in 1988. The Mark XXII was eventually discontinued in 1989, but it was reintroduced in 2007 as a bolt-action rifle. The original Mark XXII autoloader was available in two versions, one with a tubular magazine and the other with a box-type detachable magazine holding 10 rounds.

The Weatherby Mark XXII .22 LR mag-fed rifle is a precision-crafted firearm that embodies Weatherby's commitment to excellence in design and performance. This rifle has a sleek and ergonomic design and combines classic aesthetics with modern engineering to deliver unparalleled accuracy and reliability. The rifle's magazine-fed system allows for quick and efficient reloading, ensuring uninterrupted shooting sessions, whether in target practice or varmint hunting scenarios. The .22 LR caliber offers versatility and affordability, making it an ideal choice for shooters of all skill levels. The Weatherby Mark XXII is renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail, with a finely tuned action and crisp trigger pull that enhance shooting precision. Whether used for recreational shooting or small game hunting, this rifle is a testament to Weatherby's legacy of producing firearms that excel in form and function.
