Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
In 1977, Winchester issued the Wells Fargo & Company Commemorative Carbine to honor the 125th anniversary of Wells Fargo. In announcing the new commemorative, a Winchester spokesman said "This limited edition firearm is designed to salute the people of Wells Fargo and the significant part they played in developing the western frontier. Both Wells Fargo & Company and the Winchester repeating rifle are synonymous with our early western history and a special Winchester lever action commemorating the exciting era is most appropriate in 1977."
The Wells Fargo features satin-finished American walnut, extended forearm and straight grip stock with deep cut checkering. The inscription "Wells Fargo & Co. 1852-1977", is engraved on the right side of the barrel. The receiver, in antique silver finish, is engraved on the left side with a coach drawn by six horses, surrounded by a scrolled border. The right side is engraved with a frontier town, the initials "W.F. & Co., and the dates "1852 - 1977" all bordered by scroll work. A nickel-silver medallion, embedded in the butt-stock, depicts a stagecoach and horses with the inscription "Wells Fargo & Co. 1 125 years". 19,999 were produced at New Haven in 1977.
