Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Winchester Model 1894 rifle, also known as the Winchester 94 or Model 94, is a lever-action repeating rifle that was designed by John Browning in 1894. It originally used two metallic black powder cartridges, the .32-40 Winchester and .38-55 Winchester, but in 1895, it became the first rifle to use the smokeless powder round, the .30 WCF (Winchester Center Fire), which later became known as the .30-30. The rifle was produced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company until 1980 and later by U.S. Repeating Arms under the Winchester brand until 2006, when they ceased manufacturing rifles. Reproductions of the rifle are now being made by the Miroku company of Japan and imported into the United States by the Browning Arms company of Morgan, Utah. The Model 1894 is often referred to as the "ultimate lever-action design" by firearms historians and was the first commercial sporting rifle to sell over 7,000,000 units.
Manufactured by Winchester in 1977, the Model 94 Cheyenne Commemorative Carbine is a testament to craftsmanship and cultural tribute. Chambered in .44-40 WCF, it features a distinctive blue barrel complemented by a gold receiver, lever, and barrel bands, showcasing ornate engravings honoring the Cheyenne Indian Nation. The 20-inch round barrel is equipped with a hooded beaded blade front sight and an adjustable U-notch elevator rear sight, with an additional tang peep sight for elevation adjustments. The smooth straight grip walnut stock and forearm enhance both comfort and aesthetic appeal. Markings include a gold coin inlaid on the right side of the butt stock depicting a Cheyenne Indian, and the barrel is inscribed with "Cheyenne Carbine". The right side of the receiver bears the word "Cheyenne" and features an engraving of two Indians on horseback, while the left side depicts an Indian hunting buffalo on horseback, making this rifle a striking homage to Cheyenne heritage and Winchester's legacy of quality firearms.
