Item Description

Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this legendary single-shot, break-action shotgun for a penny-start auction; this is the Browning BT-99 Standard Trap Gun!

This Browning BT-99 Standard Trap Gun is accompanied by two matching factory barrels, both correctly serialized to the gun (numbered 06716, matching 06716RP109), a desirable and uncommon configuration for dedicated trap shooters. Each barrel is 12 gauge with 2¾-inch chambers and 32-inch ventilated ribs, offering versatility for different trap presentations. One barrel is choked Full for long-yardage or handicap shooting, while the second is choked Modified, making this BT-99 a practical and well-equipped example that enhances both shootability and collector interest.

This example has been professionally restored by Turnbull Restoration, with matching documentation included to verify the work. The accompanying paperwork corresponds to the correct serial number, confirming authenticity and adding to the firearm’s collector appeal.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Browning BT-99 Standard Trap Gun is a purpose-built single-shot shotgun designed specifically for American trapshooting, and it has earned a long-standing reputation for durability, balance, and consistency. Introduced in 1969, the BT-99 was Browning’s answer to competitive shooters who wanted a dedicated trap gun without the complexity or cost of an over/under or double-barrel design. Built on a strong break-action platform, the BT-99 features a heavy barrel, robust locking system, and simple manual of arms that emphasize reliability and repeatable performance. Its straightforward single-shot configuration encourages disciplined shooting while minimizing recoil management issues common in lighter field guns.

The BT-99 Standard has been produced in various configurations from 1969 to the present, with changes over the decades reflecting evolving shooter preferences rather than fundamental design flaws. Early Belgian- and Japanese-made examples are particularly respected for fit and finish, while later models continued Browning’s emphasis on competitive performance and value. Adjustable ribs, stock options, and choke variations have appeared over time, but the core BT-99 formula has remained remarkably consistent. Today, the BT-99 is widely regarded as one of the most successful single-barrel trap guns ever produced, valued by competitors for its longevity and by collectors for its historical importance in American clay target shooting.
