Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Marlin 39A is the oldest continuously produced shoulder firearm in the world and has been in production for the longest period of time. The rifle was initially known as the Marlin Model 1891, which was the first lever-action rifle chambered in .22LR. The magazine was loaded through a conventional side gate in the receiver, but the tubular magazine was later changed to front-loading with the Model 1892 due to the challenges of feeding the small rimfire round through the receiver. The Model 1892 was then replaced by the takedown Model 1897, which became the Model 39 in 1921, and then the Model 39-A in 1939. The Golden Mountie Model 39A was introduced in 1954, and the 39A continued production until 1983 when the current Golden 39A was introduced. Although there were minor changes between models, the rifle has been continually produced to the same basic specifications for over 100 years.
The Model 39-A was manufactured without a cross hammer safety, but the current Golden Model 39A has included one since it was introduced in 1973. This has made the Golden 39A one of the most accurate and finest examples of a lever .22 rifle ever produced. Additionally, it has become the highest-selling lever rimfire in the history of the United States. If you are a Marlin collector, adding this rifle to your safe would be a great choice.
