Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Ruger Single-Six is a single-action rimfire revolver that has been produced by Sturm, Ruger & Co. since June 1953. The current model is called the New Model Single-Six, which features Ruger's transfer bar mechanism for increased safety. This safety mechanism ensures that the revolver can be carried safely with all six chambers loaded. Prior to 1973, the Single-Six was manufactured without the transfer bar mechanism, making it less safe to carry with all six chambers loaded and with the hammer resting on a loaded chamber. With the transfer bar safety upgrade, the revolver can only fire when the trigger is pulled. Ruger offers the transfer bar safety upgrade free of charge to owners of any old model Single-Six, though it may impact the trigger feel of the revolver.
Ruger also produces several "convertible" models that come with both a .22 LR cylinder and a .22 WMR cylinder, allowing the use of both cartridges. Additionally, the .22 Short and .22 Long cartridges can be fired in the Long Rifle cylinder. For those models that ship with both cylinders, the last three digits of the serial number are engraved on the front of the cylinder. It is important to note that only cylinders that have been properly timed should be used with any given revolver. Lastly, the term Super Single-Six refers to models that have fully adjustable target sights.
