A Biathlon rifle is specifically designed for use in biathlon events. These rifles are ultra-light and equipped with straight-pull actions, integrated magazine carriers, and ergonomic stock designs suitable for both prone and standing positions. They are built to comply with the technical regulations of competition-sanctioning bodies, such as the International Biathlon Union (IBU), which holds both winter and summer biathlon events, including those in the Winter Olympics.
Anschütz previously manufactured several biathlon rifles, including the Anschütz 1427B Biathlon which was constructed using a Match 54 14XX action. Additionally, they produced the Anschütz 1827 (distinct from the 1827 Fortner) which used a Match 54 18XX action, and the Anschütz 64R Biathlon which employed a Match 64 action. The Anschutz 1427 is a lesser-known small-bore biathlon rifle that was replaced by the 1827 model.
