Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Beretta 70 is a magazine-fed, single-action semi-automatic pistol series developed and manufactured by Beretta of Italy, designed to replace the earlier 7.65mm Beretta M1935. Some models within this series were marketed under various names, including Falcon, New Puma, New Sable, Jaguar, and Cougar (distinct from the later Beretta 8000 series, also branded as Cougar). Noteworthy for its appearances in films, the Beretta 70 is also significant as the first compact pistol from Beretta to feature a number of design improvements that would become common in the brand's firearms for the rest of the century. The Beretta 70s were built with a steel frame and were available in .22LR, .32 ACP, and .380 ACP calibers. A key feature of the Model 70s was the introduction of a conventional thumb-operated safety on the left side of the frame. Later export models, particularly those intended for the U.S. market, were equipped with grips featuring a pronounced left thumb rest for enhanced ergonomics.
