Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Government Model of 1911, designed by John Moses Browning, is considered the finest combat handgun ever fielded by the U.S. Army. It was widely used as the standard issue sidearm by the United States Armed Forces from 1911 to 1985. The pistol was a triumph of design and is still regarded by gun historians as the best firearm design to date. After World War I, some minor external changes were made to the pistol, and the new version, completed in 1924, was called the 1911 A1. The Colt Government MKIV Series 70 1911 A1, produced from 1970 to 1983, introduced the accurized Split Barrel Bushing (collet bushing). In 1981, the Colt Custom Shop produced a limited edition of 250 Government MKIV Series 70 1911 A1 pistols to commemorate the WWII U.S. Office of Strategic Services. These pistols feature a polished Royal Blue finish, gold etched slide with WWII OSS operations scenes (Frogman, Paratroopers & Strategic Bridge Demolition) accompanied by the Statue Of Liberty/ OSS Crest & floral scroll accents, laminated wood grips with gloss finish & Colt Custom Shop crest, safety grip, grooved rear strap, grooved hammer and come in an original brown padded hard case with OSS history book & brown leather magazine pouch.
