Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
According to our research, the HK-91 traces it's lineage back to the early 1950's, when the Germans and Spanish collaberated on improving the CETME Model A, which was the standard issue rifle for German armed forces for a brief period.Engineers worked to refine the design, spawning the CETME model B, and later the model C, finally becoming adopted as the "Gewehr 3" (Rifle - model 3) or "G3" for short. Early G3's featured a flip-up rear sight, which can still be found on CETME rifles. Later refinements to the design would include the now-standard drum style rear sight found on nearly every HK made rifle or sub-machine gun, plastic handguards, and telescoping stocks. The G3 rifles were automatic rifles - not just semi-only. The G3 design spawned an entire family of rifles and submachine guns - including the famous MP5. With demand by civilian shooters and law enforcement for a semi-auto rifle, HK released the model 91 rifle.
