Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Ruger Blackhawk is a six-shot, single-action revolver manufactured by Sturm, Ruger & Co., introduced in 1955 as a response to the demand for cowboy-style firearms in the wake of the popularity of Westerns. It followed the success of the Single-Six, a .22 LR revolver. It was initially chambered for the .357 Magnum, later expanding to include a variant for the .44 Magnum shortly after Smith & Wesson introduced the cartridge. Early models, known as "Flattop" models, featured adjustable sights without protective "ears," while the "Three Screw" models, produced from 1962 to 1972, were noted for their visible screws and improved durability through the use of coil springs. To enhance safety, Ruger introduced the New Model Blackhawk in 1973, which incorporated a transfer bar mechanism that allowed for safe carrying with all chambers loaded and eliminated the need for half-cocking the hammer. This innovation significantly reduced the risk of accidental discharges and demonstrated Ruger's commitment to firearm safety. The New Model Super Blackhawk is available in both blued and stainless finishes, with options for a scope-mounting rib. Built on the same frame as the standard Blackhawk, it features a larger grip to better manage the recoil of the .44 Magnum, particularly in the 7.5" and 10.5" barrel configurations, while the 5.5" barrel variant has an unfluted cylinder. Unlike the aluminum grip frames found in the standard Blackhawk, the Super Blackhawk is equipped with steel grip frames for added durability. Additionally, while earlier models had steel ejector rod housings, the new stainless steel versions maintain this robust feature.
