Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 34 is a compact double/single-action revolver chambered in .22 Long Rifle, originally introduced as the .22/32 Kit Gun. It was produced with 2-inch or 4-inch pinned barrels and offered with either square- or round-butt frames. The revolver features a six-shot fluted cylinder measuring 1.32 inches on the improved I-frame, with later J-frame production increasing cylinder length to 1.44 inches. The 2-inch barrel variant typically features a high-profile 1/10-inch serrated ramp front sight and a micrometer-click adjustable rear sight. Early production examples were fitted with serrated, case-colored triggers, while later models transitioned to a smooth .312-inch trigger and a .375-inch semi-target, case-colored hammer. Finishes were offered in blue or nickel, and the flat-latch thumbpiece appeared in three distinct variations over the production run. Standard grips were walnut with Smith & Wesson medallions. The Model 34 was initially built on the improved I-frame and later on the J-frame, with a small Smith & Wesson trademark on the frame. Barrel markings read “22 L.R. CTG.” on the right side and “Smith & Wesson” on the left. Produced from 1953 until its discontinuation in 1991, the Model 34 established itself as a lightweight, accurate rimfire revolver valued for its portability and refinement, earning enduring popularity among outdoorsmen, collectors, and recreational shooters alike.
