The Model 10 was developed as a successor to the Smith & Wesson .32 Hand Ejector Model of 1896, marking an important step forward in revolver design. One of its most innovative features at the time was the introduction of a cylinder release latch on the left side of the frame, inspired by the design of the Colt M1889. This new latch system allowed for swing-out cylinder ejection, significantly speeding up the reloading process and enhancing operational efficiency—especially valuable for military and police applications. This revolver is a six-shot, double-action design chambered in .38 Special, a cartridge that was itself introduced alongside the Model 10. Known for manageable recoil and respectable stopping power, the .38 Special quickly became the standard for law enforcement sidearms across the United States and abroad.
