Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 539 is a classic double-action pistol chambered in the popular 9mm cartridge. It was part of S&W's '2nd Generation' semi-auto line, and it had an all-steel frame and slide version of the alloy-framed Smith & Wesson 439 and stainless steel Smith & Wesson 639. The 539 came with an eight-shot magazine, a 4-inch barrel, and either a blue or nickel finish. Most 539's had an adjustable rear sight, but there was a short production run of rare fixed-sight versions. The Smith & Wesson 539 was only produced for a short time, from 1980 to 1983, with an overall total of 8,159 reported to have been made, of which 1,975 featured a nickel finish, which makes both the blue and nickel models quite collectible for Smith & Wesson collectors.
