The S&W 559 is an all-steel variant of the 'Second Generation' alloy frame model 459. This pistol is a double-action (DA/SA), recoil-operated semi-automatic. Features Nickel Finish, slide-mounted safety/decocking lever, serrated backstrap and fore strap, lanyard loop on the butt, and a 14-Round double-stack magazine. The gun was introduced in 1980 with shipments starting in 1981, at approximately serial number A672,725. The majority of the guns were produced with the short wide extractor. Only 200 to 250 were supplied with the long extractor. After production of 10,609 units, 8,973 in blue finish and 1,636 in nickel, the gun was discontinued in October 1982.
