Item Description

Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this rare single-action revolver today for a penny-start auction, this is the Ruger New Model Blackhawk!

The Ruger New Model Blackhawk chambered in .357 Remington Maximum represents a notable chapter in revolver history, blending innovation with formidable performance. Introduced in 1982 through a collaboration between Ruger and Remington, the .357 Maximum cartridge was developed to provide enhanced velocity and energy over the standard .357 Magnum, catering to handgun hunters and metallic silhouette shooters. Ruger produced a total of 16,314 units, but due to concerns about top strap flame cutting from hot loads, the company ultimately destroyed approximately 5,000 of them. As a result, fewer than 11,500 were ever shipped, making surviving examples relatively scarce and highly desirable among collectors.

-According to the owner, this example remains in New-Old-Stock condition, and we see no evidence that says otherwise-

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Ruger New Model Blackhawk chambered in .357 Remington Maximum represents a notable chapter in revolver history, blending innovation with formidable performance. Introduced in 1982 through a collaboration between Ruger and Remington, the .357 Maximum cartridge was developed to provide enhanced velocity and energy over the standard .357 Magnum, catering to handgun hunters and metallic silhouette shooters. To accommodate this powerful cartridge, Ruger designed the Blackhawk with a lengthened cylinder and frame, available in 7.5-inch and 10.5-inch barrel lengths, and incorporated features such as a steel Dragoon-style grip frame, extended ejector rod, and robust top strap to withstand the increased pressures. Despite its engineering strengths, the revolver faced challenges with top strap flame cutting when firing lightweight bullets at high velocities, leading to concerns about long-term durability. Consequently, Ruger ceased production in 1984.

The combination of limited availability, unique chambering, and exceptional power has secured the .357 Maximum Blackhawk’s place as one of Ruger’s most distinctive and collectible revolvers.
