Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The High Standard Victor is widely considered one of the finest American-made target pistols, engineered specifically for precision competition shooting. Introduced as the flagship model in the Supermatic series during the 1970s, the Victor set a new standard with its exceptional accuracy, refined construction, and competition-ready features. Chambered in .22 LR, it was designed to meet the exacting demands of bullseye shooters with a finely tuned, adjustable trigger and an extremely stable sighting system. The Victor was offered with both 4½-inch and 5½-inch barrels, giving shooters options based on balance and personal preference. One of its most innovative features was the barrel-mounted rib that incorporated both front and rear sights, ensuring that slide movement had no effect on sight alignment—an essential benefit in competitive shooting. Early models came equipped with ventilated steel ribs, reportedly supplied by Thompson Center, while in 1974, High Standard transitioned to a lighter, highly polished alloy rib available in both ventilated and solid configurations.

In addition to its mechanical sophistication, the High Standard Victor is known for its sleek aesthetics and ergonomic design. High-quality walnut target grips, often sculpted with thumb rests and contoured for maximum control, provided a custom feel that enhanced shooter comfort and precision. The pistol’s weight distribution, low recoil, and outstanding trigger characteristics made it a dominant force in bullseye competitions and a favorite among elite shooters. Its polished blued finish, distinctive ribbed barrel, and unmistakable profile gave it an elegant yet purposeful appearance. Though production has long since ceased, the Victor continues to maintain a loyal following and commands high respect in both competitive shooting circles and among collectors. As a pinnacle of American rimfire pistol design, the High Standard Victor remains a lasting symbol of craftsmanship, performance, and innovation in precision shooting.
