Item Description
According to our research in July of 1984, Smith & Wesson produced a special run of 600 units of this Model called the Jovino Special with 2-inch barrels, smooth combat triggers, and checkered walnut square butt grips. These revolvers were produced in the serial range beginning with the prefix of AEB and AEC. This sale was so successful that it was followed in September 1984 by a second group of Jovino Special Model 60. These revolvers had 3-inch heavy barrels and checkered walnut square butt grips. The total production of this special was 1000 units. These revolvers were disbursed through several of the triple-alpha four numeric serial number groups. Both groups were shipped to John Jovino Co. New York City. NY.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
This Smith & Wesson Model 60, manufactured in 1984, aligns with a particularly interesting production period marked by the limited-run “Jovino Special” revolvers supplied to the John Jovino Company in New York City. Smith & Wesson produced two special groups that year: an initial July 1984 run of 600 units featuring 2-inch barrels and smooth combat triggers, followed by a second run of 400 units in September 1984 equipped with 3-inch heavy barrels and checkered walnut square-butt grips. These later 3-inch variants—such as this example—are especially appealing because they offer improved balance, controllability, and accuracy over the shorter-barreled versions. Distributed across multiple triple-alpha serial prefixes, these revolvers remain desirable to collectors due to their limited production and direct shipment to one of the most iconic firearms dealers of the era.
