Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The 1911 is widely considered as one of the best combat pistols ever designed and the first successful self-loading pistol. It was created by John Browning, an American firearms inventor. This pistol is the oldest service pistol in the world, still being used in over 25 nations and has been popular for over 100 years.
In 1983, the Colt Mark IV Series 80 was introduced which had a new safety feature called the firing pin block system. This system made it impossible for the weapon to discharge if it was dropped or thrown on a hard surface. The new Colt Series 80 also included the new barrel bushing of the Series 70 and had a long trigger and flat mainspring housing, similar to the original M1911. The Series 80 became a huge success in both the commercial and military/law enforcement markets and quickly replaced the Series 70. The design was adopted by almost every other manufacturer of 1911, making almost all of the 1911s being sold on the market, regardless of manufacturer, traceable to a Series 80 design. Although the Series 70 has been making a comeback, the majority of 1911s sold today are still a Series 80 variant.
