Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Walther P1 is a post-war evolution of the legendary P38, serving as a standard sidearm for the West German military during the Cold War era. This particular example, serial number 461520, was manufactured in 1986 and is chambered in 9mm. It features a 5-inch barrel and a phosphate finish, offering both corrosion resistance and a subdued, non-reflective appearance well-suited for service use. The pistol is equipped with a white dot front sight and a square-cut rear sight for quick sight alignment, while its checkered synthetic grips provide a secure hold. The semi-automatic action operates on Walther’s proven short-recoil, locked-breech system, known for its reliability and mechanical precision.

Markings on this P1 add to its historical interest and confirm its military heritage. The “1/86” date stamp on the left side of the slide denotes its January 1986 production date. The slide, barrel, and frame each bear the “Dot in Circle” Walther factory inspection stamp, indicating that these parts met military and police quality standards. Additionally, the frame is stamped with the “Bw” property marking of the Bundeswehr, identifying it as German military issue. Together, these details make this Walther P1 not only a functional and well-built service pistol but also a tangible artifact of West Germany’s armed forces during the late Cold War period.
