The Colt Delta Elite, introduced in 1987, is a modified version of the iconic M1911 pistol, chambered for the powerful 10mm Auto cartridge. As the second commercial pistol to be chambered in 10mm, following the Bren Ten, the Delta Elite capitalized on the growing interest in the 10mm round, which had been developed through testing by the FBI to offer superior stopping power compared to the 9mm Parabellum and even the .45 ACP. This potent cartridge made the Delta Elite an ideal choice for law enforcement, tactical shooters, and handgun hunters seeking more power from a semi-automatic. Produced from 1987 to 1996, the Delta Elite incorporated the tried-and-true design of the Colt M1911, now featuring the Series 80 firing pin safety system, which enhanced the safety without sacrificing the proven reliability and accuracy of the M1911 platform.
