One thing that is certainly guaranteed is that NO COLLECTOR has this 1 of 1 EVER PRODUCED "His & Her set" that was produced by the Colt Custom Shop for the President of Colt.
This set has never surfaced on the open market until now, this set was just recently released from Mr. French's personal collection.
According to the included Colt factory letter The Colt Custom Shop was commissioned by the Colt President's Staff Members to produce this exquisite "His & Hers" set of firearms for presentation to Colt Firearms Division President, Gary French, and Mrs. French for Christmas 1987.
Each Gun has been especially custom designed to include special finishes, tuned actions, and personalized scrimshawed stocks, with both firearms being cased in a single wall mounted shadow box. The "His & Hers" presentation firearms represent another milestone in the lineage of Colt historical and deluxe firearms.
THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IN THE FIRM'S 151 YEAR HISTORY THAT COLT PRESENTATION FIREARMS HAVE BEEN COMMISSIONED AND PRESENTED TO THE COLTS FIREARM DIVISION PRESIDENT AND HIS SPOUSE!
According to the letter Authored and Signed by Gary W. French, Past President, Colt Firearms "The Colt Diamondback, serial number D61687 and the Colt Combat Elite, serial number CG08671 were both acquired by me while I was president of Colt Firearms and have been part of my personal collection. I have owned these now for many years and recently I consigned them to the dealer that you purchased them from. I hope you enjoy these guns as much as I have. Good luck with your collecting."

There are no shortage of M1911 makers but, for more than a century, Colt has been the standard by which other companies’ products are compared. Colt isn’t resting on its history, though. The epochal Hartford, Connecticut firm’s offerings continues to evolve to meet the needs of shooters. Colt’s current catalog of Model 1911s is arguably the most diverse ever with 57 different variations available. Among those options is the Combat Elite line of handguns. The Combat Elite series offers Government-, Commander- and Defender-size 1911s designed with defensive carry in mind. These all-steel handguns possess all of the features one expects of a quality, modern 1911, and G&A tested examples in every size.
In 1966 Colt introduced the Colt Diamondback revolver. The Diamondback was intended to be a premium quality adjustable sighted small framed revolver that would resemble the popular Python. The new Diamondback was built on the Colt "D" frame as used for the Detective Special, Police Positive Special, etc. It had a wide, long, grooved Target hammer, Target type walnut grips, Colt Accro adjustable sight, and a barrel that looked like a Python barrel and was in fact built on Python machinery. While the new Diamondback looked like a miniature Python, it isn't the same quality and wasn't fitted or finished to the same level. The action wasn't tuned to Python standards and the blue job was not the Royal Blue as used on the Python. The Diamondback is really a Detective Special level gun with adjustable sights and a barrel that closely resembles a Python barrel. Production of the Diamondback was from 1966 to 1991.
