Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt MK IV Series 80 Combat Elite is a full-size 1911 variant produced from 1986 to 1996, and is built on the Series 80 platform, which was introduced in 1983. Like all Series 80 pistols, it incorporates Colt’s internal firing-pin block safety system and the redesigned flat-top half-cock notch, improvements intended to prevent accidental discharge if dropped and to eliminate breakage issues found in earlier hook-style half-cock notches. The Combat Elite was offered as an upgraded Government Model intended for defensive use and enhanced shootability. Many examples feature the distinctive two-tone combination of a blue slide over a stainless frame. Early production guns often carried three-dot sights, while the rear sight style varied across the production run. Although exact production numbers were never published, the Combat Elite has long been considered one of Colt’s more desirable Series 80 pistols, appreciated for its features, distinctive appearance, and its position between standard Government Models and more custom-oriented 1911s.
