The Whitetailer Model is a limited edition revolver that was manufactured by the Colt Custom Shop. It was created using the Trooper MK V Model revolver, which is known for its accuracy and reliability. The Whitetailer Model was released in 1987 and only 500 were issued by Outdoor Sports Headquarters, making it a highly sought-after collector's item. Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
In 1982, Colt introduced an upgraded version of the successful Mark III series, called the Mark V series. The Mark V series had some major changes as compared to the Mark III series:
The sintered steel hammer and trigger were replaced by cast steel. The hammer and trigger were changed to Colt's first short action, resulting in a shorter hammer fall. The mainspring, mainspring guide, and location of the mainspring seat were changed to a longer spring and longer guide to improve the trigger pull. The full profile square butt frame was changed to a new rounded profile grip frame. The grips were changed to a full wrap-around design with a covered back strap. The barrel was modified to include Python-like vents in the rib.

The Mark III series has been produced in several variants. As many law enforcement agencies began to replace revolvers with automatic pistols, the sales of revolvers declined. Consequently, Colt ceased production of all Mark III-type versions and only manufactured a Trooper Mark V and a Lawman Mark V as standard production models. The Trooper Mark V was the high-end version, featuring adjustable sights, a target hammer, a target trigger, and target grips. The barrel lengths available were 4 inches, 6 inches, and 8 inches, all equipped with a red front sight insert. The finishes available were bright blue, bright nickel, and satin electroless nickel, which is also known as "Coltguard". The caliber of the Trooper Mark V was .357 Magnum.

The Colt Whitetailer is a variant of the Trooper Mark V revolver, which was produced in very limited quantities for the hunting market. It has a matte finish, an 8-inch barrel with scope rings, and a Burris 1 1/2X-4X scope. The revolver is equipped with telescopic sight mounting rings, making it perfect for hunting whitetail deer.
