Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
In the late 1950s, Remington Arms embarked on designing a 22-rimfire semi-automatic rifle that could be manufactured inexpensively with minimal machining or hand fitting. Their solution was the Nylon 66, a revolutionary design where the gun stock doubled as the receiver, housing the bolt, trigger assembly, and barrel as an integral unit. Unlike traditional long guns, the receiver, barrel, and bolt could not be separated from the stock in Nylon rifles. Introduced in 1959, the Nylon 66 derived its name from Dupont's plastic used for the rifle stock. The stock was cast in two parts and bonded to create a robust and rigid receiver, requiring little to no additional fitting.

It marked a significant milestone as the first mass-produced rifle with a stock made from a non-wood material, pioneering the Nylon family. Despite the risks, Remington's gamble paid off, as the Nylon 66 gained popularity, leading to the introduction of various variants over time. Originally, chambered in .22 LR, there was an exclusive variant called the Apache 77. It was produced between 1987 and 1989, with approximately 54,000 units made for K-Mart. The Apache 77 was essentially identical to the Nylon 77 and 10C models but featured a distinctive green stock with a black matte receiver and barrel. This differentiation was indicated on the grip cap of these rifles.
