Markings: Type "B" scroll engraving in "Henshaw" on the bottom of the backstrap and on the trigger guard bow, "Nimschke" on the cylinder, "Helfricht" on the frame and barrel lug, and "Contemporary" on the barrel. The hammer is also engraved with Wolf's Head design. The 150th Rampant Colt logo is linecut engraved on the top of the backstrap, and "Colt Engraving Sampler" is linecut engraved down the backstrap in script style. The stocks are also scrimshawed on the left side in script with the following: R. Henshaw 1831, L. Nimschke 1850-1900, C. Helfricht 1871-1921, and Contemporary.

The Colt Model 1848 Percussion Army Revolver is a .44 caliber revolver designed by Samuel Colt for the U.S. Army's Regiment of Mounted Rifles. The revolver was also issued to the Army's "Dragoon" Regiments. This revolver was designed as a solution to numerous problems encountered with the Colt Walker. Although it was introduced after the Mexican–American War, it became popular among civilians during the 1850s and 1860s, and was also used during the American Civil War.
The Colt 3rd Model Dragoon that is factory engraved and fitted with one-piece elephant ivory grips! Only 25 of these Nickel "Engraving Sampler" Dragoons were manufactured and they are rare! This is an impressive large & heavy .44 Caliber black-powder percussion ("cap & ball") revolver. It has a 7-1/2" part octagon/part round barrel and tips the scales at a 4-pounds, 3.3-ounces! It features a highly polished Nickel finish. The engraving on this handsome revolver has examples of the styles used by some of the most famous Colt engravers of the past.
Condition and Contents:
As you can see in the many high resolution photos, this Colt is what we believe to be New Old Stock, showing no indications of consumer use and handling whatsoever! Additionally, it will come with the factory labeled box, Colt factory historical letter, and papers.
