Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt MKIV Series 80 Government Model .380 ACP pistol was introduced in 1983 and was manufactured until 1997 when the model was discontinued. It was available in blue ('83-'97), stainless steel ('89-'97), nickel ('83-'94), or a "Coltguard" finish ('86-'89) during its production run.
These pistols were designed by Colt as personal defense/concealed carry guns that were small and lightweight, yet familiar to shooters who were proficient with the full-size 1911. The Government Model MKIV Series 80 produced this scaled-down model with a 3.25" barrel, roughly 78 percent of that of a full-sized M1911 Government Model, chambered for the .380 auto cartridge. It retains the locked breech recoil action of the larger .45 Auto weapon but doesn't have a grip safety like the larger .45 caliber MKIV models. The Government Model .380 is scaled down to approximately 78 percent of a full-sized M1911 Government Model, which is its obvious aesthetic difference. If you have been looking for a unique and classy concealed-carry pistol or just another interesting Colt to add to your collection, this little MKIV Series 80 Government Model would be an excellent choice.
