Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Smith & Wesson has built a legendary reputation over nearly 170 years as one of the United States’ most respected firearm manufacturers, known for producing high-quality firearms across a range of designs. While the company today is recognized for its wide array of semi-automatic pistols and rifles, it is perhaps best known for its revolvers, which are widely regarded as some of the finest in the world. Among these, the Model 25 stands out as a particularly iconic firearm in the Smith & Wesson lineup. Produced from 1955 to 1991, the Model 25 was offered in several variations and chambered for three different cartridges: .45 ACP, .45 Long Colt, and .45 Auto Rim. One of the ways to identify the specific chambering of a Model 25 was through its dash number, a system used by Smith & Wesson to denote engineering changes and updates. Generally, odd-numbered dash models were chambered in .45 Long Colt, while even-numbered models were chambered in .45 ACP. The Model 25’s combination of robust build, smooth operation, and versatility in chambering made it a favorite among revolver enthusiasts, and it remains one of Smith & Wesson's most respected and well-regarded revolvers even after its retirement.
