Based on our research, this example is part of the limited production series known as "The Twelve Revolvers," specifically the September Edition titled "Outnumbered."

According to our research, a total of 500 units were produced for the September Edition of "The Twelve Revolvers" series. Of these, 266 revolvers featured the complete decorative elements, while 234 were left undecorated. This distinction makes the undecorated models particularly rare and highly sought after by collectors.

According to the owner, this example is in “like new, unfired” condition!

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 27-5 September Edition “Outnumbered” is a distinguished example of fine American firearm craftsmanship, blending both historical significance and collectible value. Manufactured in 1990 as part of a limited series for Ellett Bros. of Chapin, South Carolina, this revolver is a testament to Smith & Wesson's commitment to both performance and artistry. This specific model, which is part of the Twelve Revolvers series, was part of a monthly format, each featuring unique engravings inspired by early S&W advertising paintings. However, due to a business separation, the full series was never completed, adding to the rarity and allure of this particular edition.

The Model 27-5 itself is chambered in the powerful .357 Magnum caliber, a choice that underscores the revolver's robust design and reliable performance. With a barrel length of 6 ½ inches, this revolver strikes a balance between accuracy and maneuverability. The blue finish of this model adds a classic touch, while the gold bead Partridge front sight paired with an adjustable black blade rear sight enhances aiming precision, catering to both enthusiasts and collectors. The walnut target grips, adorned with S&W medallions, not only provide a comfortable hold but also complement the overall aesthetic of the revolver. This specific edition, while part of a themed series, is one of the "undecorated" examples from the September Edition titled “Outnumbered.” Although initially designed to feature a detailed action scene, this particular model lacks the decorations found on the completed versions. According to records, only 500 revolvers were made for the September edition, with 266 featuring decorations and 234 left undecorated like this example. This scarcity enhances its appeal, marking it as a unique piece in the realm of collectible firearms.

The history of the Smith & Wesson Model 27 itself dates back to 1935, where it was first introduced as the Registered Magnum. The revolver was known for its customizable features, allowing enthusiasts to choose from a variety of barrel lengths, grips, sights, and finishes. Built on the robust N-frame, the Model 27 has long been praised for its durability and accuracy, and its design evolution has kept it relevant in the firearms market for decades. The 27-5 September Edition “Outnumbered” is a notable representation of this legacy, embodying both the historical significance of the Model 27 and the unique, collectible nature of the limited-edition series.
