Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 4506 is a semi-automatic pistol that belongs to the 4500 series of handguns. It is the third generation of the series and is chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge. With the purchase of special springs, it can also handle the stronger .45 Super. The pistol is mainly constructed from stainless steel, which makes it highly resistant to harsh weather conditions. The 4506 is a traditional double-action/single-action pistol. The first shot is fired in double-action mode, and each subsequent shot is fired in single-action mode. It has one-piece Xenoy wrap-around grips with either a curved or straight back strap. The pistol was produced from 1988 to 1999.
The 4506 features a combination safety lever and decocker mounted on the slide, a plunger-type firing pin safety, a magazine disconnect, and a pin-mounted, pivoting spring-actuated external extractor. These features are similar to those of most third-generation Smith & Wesson semi-automatic pistols. The Smith & Wesson Model 4566 is a midsize version of the Model 4506 with a 4 1/4" barrel on a full-size steel frame. The Model 4576 is the frame-mounted manual decocking lever version of the Model 4566, produced from 1991-1992.
