Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
In 1983, Colt unveiled the Colt Mark IV/Series 80 Government Model in .380 Auto, which was a pocket pistol that resembled, but not designed like, the Colt M1911. The Government Model .380 was scaled down to about 78% of the full-sized M1911 Government Model, with a factory capacity of 7+1. In 1986, Colt released a simplified version of their .380 called the Mustang, which had a shortened barrel, slide, and grip frame, and held two fewer rounds. The Pocket Light version was introduced in 1987, which reduced the weapon's weight and increased its popularity. In 1988, the Mustang Plus II was introduced, featuring the longer grip frame of the original Government Model and holding two more rounds in its magazine. Colt later changed the spring and follower in the Mustang magazine, increasing its capacity to six. In 1993, they introduced the Night Light .380 with Bar Dot Tritium night sights, and in 1996, they added a blued steel frame or stainless version. Colt discontinued the Mustang Pocketlite but reintroduced it in 2011, along with the Colt Mustang XSP in 2013, a polymer frame version with updated design.
