Mechanically, the Montefeltro uses Benelli’s recoil-operated rotary locking system: two locking lugs on the bolt rotate into a steel barrel extension, creating a direct lockup between bolt and barrel. Because the bolt locks to the barrel rather than to the receiver, Benelli can employ a lightweight aluminum receiver and eliminate a gas system, which means no gas rings or O-rings to foul or replace. The absence of gas-system parts around the magazine tube also permits the slim fore-end and contributes to the shotgun’s low overall weight and high field reliability, making the Montefeltro a practical, low-maintenance choice for hunters who want modern function in a traditional package.
