Item Description

Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this INCREDIBLE bolt-action rifle today for a penny-start auction; this is the Remington 40-XB KS. (Kevlar Stock)!

The Remington 40-XB KS is a specialized variant of the renowned 40-X series, developed by Remington’s Custom Shop as a high-end, precision bolt-action rifle. Originally introduced in the 1950s for competitive shooting, the 40-X platform quickly earned a reputation for exceptional accuracy and craftsmanship. The “KS” designation stands for “Kevlar Stock,” referencing the synthetic stock used in these models, which provided increased rigidity and reduced weight over traditional wood stocks. Produced primarily in the 1980s and 1990s, the 40-XB KS was chambered in various centerfire calibers and hand-assembled with match-grade components, making it a favorite among benchrest shooters, law enforcement marksmen, and collectors seeking top-tier Remington precision.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington 40-X was introduced in 1955 as a purpose-built precision rifle designed for competitive shooting and military/law enforcement marksmanship training. Based on the proven Model 700 action, the 40-X was developed by Remington’s experimental and custom shop division to meet the growing demand for a factory rifle capable of delivering benchrest-level accuracy straight out of the box. It quickly gained favor in NRA High Power, smallbore, and benchrest circles due to its hand-fitted components, heavy-contour barrels, and rigid actions. Remington positioned the 40-X as a flagship precision rifle, often offering it with guaranteed accuracy standards, something rarely seen in production rifles of the time. Its legacy laid the groundwork for generations of precision bolt-action rifles and cemented Remington’s reputation in the world of competitive shooting. The 40-XB KS emerged in the 1980s and 1990s as a refined version of the original, combining the core precision of the 40-X action with modern materials and hand-assembled craftsmanship. The “XB” denoted custom shop build quality, while the “KS” stood for Kevlar Stock, referring to the McMillan-made composite stock that offered superior strength-to-weight ratio and weather resistance over traditional wood. These rifles were typically chambered in long-range calibers like .308 Win and .300 Win Mag and featured stainless or blued match-grade barrels, free-floating stocks, and adjustable triggers. The 40-XB KS was aimed at serious shooters, whether competitors, tactical professionals, or collectors, and today stands as one of the finest factory precision rifles ever offered by Remington.
