Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 17 is a six-shot double-action revolver that uses .22 LR rounds. It is based on Smith & Wesson's medium-sized K-frame. The Model 16 and Model 17 were originally part of the company's Pre-World War 2 Hand Ejector series in the 1930s. After World War 2, these two revolver models were introduced as companion pieces, known as the K-32 and K-22, respectively. The K-32 Masterpiece (Model 16) was first launched in 1935 and was chambered in .32 S&W Long caliber. Production was stopped during World War 2, but the revolver was reintroduced in 1947 along with the K-22 Masterpiece (Model 17), which used .22 Long Rifle caliber. The Model 16 was no longer produced after 1983 because the .32 S&W Long caliber was becoming less popular. Similarly, the Model 17 was discontinued in 1998 as the company shifted away from making blued steel revolvers at that time.
