Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The 1911 is generally viewed as one of the finest combat pistols ever designed and the first successful self-loading pistol. The 1911 was designed by American firearms inventor John Browning and is the oldest service pistol in the world; still used in over 25 nations for over 100 years; it has proven itself to be one of the most popular and timeless handguns ever made. The next major design came in 1983 with the Colt Mark IV Series 80. On this model, Colt added a safety feature in the form of a firing pin block system that made it impossible for the weapon to discharge if dropped or thrown on a hard surface. The new Colt Series 80 also incorporated the new barrel bushing of the Series 70, while being more reminiscent of the original M1911 by having a long trigger and flat mainspring housing.
Since its founding in 1986, Chip McCormick Custom has been the manufacturer of the World Famous Chip McCormick Shooting Star 1911 pistol magazines. The goal of Chip McCormick Custom products is to be the preferred source of high-quality and innovative, practical firearms accessories for shooters of all skill levels. Most people know Michael “Chip” McCormick for his industry-leading 1911 magazines, but few are aware McCormick was responsible for many other innovations that transformed the gun world. An intensely private man, he quietly invented many things we take for granted today. He took the drive that pushed him to two World Speed Championships and focused it on inventing and manufacturing.
Based on our research, the McCormick Colts feature parts designed by Chip McCormick and built by Colt Custom Shop for Lew Horton. Some features include a hard chrome finish, a Videki trigger, and extended thumb safety. Also, there is an extended slide stop and McCormick precision-made hammer and ear, resulting in a crisp trigger. These pistols also feature the McCormick "Shooting Star" extra-capacity magazines. Mccormick's high-tech components are known for their extreme tolerances, high-grade materials, and longevity.
There were three variations, with 500 of each produced. The variations were the "McCormick Officer" Colt Officers ACP with the serial prefix "MFS, the "McCormick Commander" Colt Combat Commander with the serial prefix "MFC, and the "McCormick Factory Racer" Colt Government Model with the serial prefix "MFR."
