Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt MKIV Series 80 Government Model .380 ACP pistol was introduced in 1983 and was manufactured until 1997 when the model was discontinued. During it's production run it was offered in a blue ('83-'97), stainless steel ('89-'97), nickel ('83-'94), or a "Coltguard" finish ('86-'89). Colt designed these pistols as a personal defense/concealed carry gun that was compact and light, yet familiar to those shooters that were proficient with the full-size 1911. Produced as part of the Government Model MKIV Series 80, this is a scaled down model with a 3.25" barrel, roughly 78 percent to that of a full-sized M1911 Government Model, chambered for the .380 auto cartridge. It retains the locked breech recoil action of the larger .45 Auto weapon, but unlike the larger .45 caliber MKIV models, there is no grip safety. If you have been looking for a unique and classy concealed-carry pistol, or just another interesting Colt to add to your collection, this little MKIV Series 80 Government Model would be a excellent choice.
