The Colt 1991A1 Commander was introduced as a lighter-weight version of the 1911 and became highly popular. It was offered in various variations, including different frame materials and calibers. Although the original development focused on an aluminum-frame 9mm gun as a candidate for US Military post-war officer’s pistols, the steel frame Commanders, like this one, are what people usually think of when they hear "The Commander". This Commander is a recent model with the same basic design as a 1911-A1. However, it has a shorter 4 1/4″ barrel and a "Commander" ring trigger.
