Lew Horton Distributing Co. holds a significant place in the world of collectible and limited-production firearms. Founded in the late 1970s, the company became widely known throughout the 1980s and 1990s for its collaborations with major manufacturers like Colt, Smith & Wesson, and others to commission exclusive, small-batch runs of firearms with unique features not available through standard catalogs. These distributor-exclusive guns often featured distinctive barrel lengths, finishes, engraving, or special serial number ranges, making them immediately recognizable and highly sought after by collectors.

According to the owner, this example is in NEW OLD STOCK condition, and we see no evidence to indicate otherwise whatsoever!

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Single Action Army (also known as the Model P, Peacemaker, M1873, Single Action Army, SAA) is a single-action revolver with a revolving cylinder holding six metallic cartridges. It was designed for the U.S. government service revolver trials of 1873 by Colt's Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company, today Colt’s Manufacturing Company, and adopted as the standard military service revolver until 1892. It is perhaps the most copied, fraudulently modified to replicate an original Colt SAA, than any other revolver made. In 1994, production of the SAA resumed with the increase in popularity of Cowboy Action Shooting matches. These models are known either as "Late Third Generation" or sometimes Fourth Generation. They have the original style removable/replaceable cylinder bushing. The serial number for this series started at S02001A and continues to use the "S" prefix and "A" suffix as of 2022. Colt currently offers the Single Action Army in one of two finishes: either an all-nickel or blue with color case-hardened frame; in the traditional three barrel lengths: 4 3/4, 5 1/2, and 7 1/2 inches; and eight chamberings: .32-20, .38-40, .44-40, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, .44 Special, .45 Colt, or .45 ACP; a total of 42 variations.

This Colt Single Action Army revolver carries enhanced significance due to its documented shipment to Lew Horton Distributing Co., a name synonymous with exclusive and limited-production firearms. Shipped on July 20, 1998, this revolver was one of only ten of its type sent to Lew Horton, highlighting its rarity right from the factory. The 5½-inch barrel and nickel finish further enhance its appeal, especially when paired with factory documentation that confirms its provenance. What makes the Lew Horton connection especially important is the distributor’s legacy of ordering unique and collectible configurations from top manufacturers like Colt. Guns shipped to Lew Horton were often offered in limited quantities and marketed directly to discerning collectors and enthusiasts seeking something beyond standard production. As such, your revolver represents not just a fine example of Colt’s craftsmanship, but also a piece of modern collector history made more desirable by its exclusive distribution path.
