Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Ruger No. 1 is a single-shot rifle with a hammerless falling-block action in the Farquharson style. It was introduced and manufactured by Sturm, Ruger & Co. in 1967. To load ammunition and cock the rifle, an underlever is used to lower the breechblock. While commenting on his work at Ruger, Lenard Brownell said about the No. 1, "There was never any question about the strength of the action. In testing it, I remember how much trouble I had trying to tear it up. In fact, I never did manage to blow one apart." A shotgun-style tang safety operates on the hammer and sear. It is available in various calibers, with an Alexander Henry, beavertail, or Mannlicher-style forearm.
The Ruger No. 1-V Varminter is a rifle model similar to the No. 1-B Standard but with a heavy barrel. It was manufactured in various calibers including .22 PPC (made from 1993 to 1996), .22-250 Remington (discontinued), .220 Swift (discontinued and reintroduced in 2014 only), .223 Remington (discontinued in 2012), .243 Winchester (discontinued), .25-06 Remington (discontinued in 2012), 6mm Remington (discontinued in 2005), 6mm PPC (made from 1993 to 1996), 6.5 Creedmoor (made from 2011 to 2012), 6.5-284 Norma (introduced in 2013), 7mm Remington (discontinued), .280 Remington (discontinued), or .300 Win. Mag. (discontinued). It comes with a checkered walnut stock and forearm, target scope blocks, and no sights. The rifle weighs approximately 8 3/4 lbs and is available with a 24 or 26-inch heavy barrel (discontinued, was only available in .220 Swift). This model was manufactured from 1970 to 2014.
