Cataloged as S&W part #103658, this special edition is immediately recognizable by its distinctive 3-inch barrel and non-fluted cylinder, a combination that gives the revolver a bold, compact, and purpose-built appearance. Introduced in 1978, the Smith & Wesson Model 629 is a stainless steel version of the Model 29, which was made famous by the iconic character Harry Callahan in the movie "Dirty Harry." The 629 model designation derives from Smith & Wesson's practice of denoting a stainless steel version of an existing design by adding a 6 to the original weapon's model number. The 629 has been made in a variety of configurations since 1979, filling just about any role that could be asked of a .44 Magnum revolver. The .44 Magnum is a stout round and will be good protection against just about anything you’ll encounter in North America, no matter if it walks on four legs or two.
