Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Browning Citori Lightning Sporting (Grade I) 12-gauge is a purpose-built over-under shotgun designed specifically for sporting clays enthusiasts, offering a combination of traditional styling and competition-focused features. Manufactured from 1989 to 2004, this model was part of Browning's expanded Citori lineup and came standard with 3-inch chambers to handle a wide range of loads. Built on a robust steel boxlock action, it features the signature rounded pistol grip and Lightning-style forearm for enhanced ergonomics and quick handling. Shooters had the option of a standard or adjustable comb stock (introduced in 1995), as well as a choice between high or low-post ventilated ribs to accommodate different sight plane preferences. Barrel options included 28-inch ported, 30-inch ported, or unported barrels (the latter eventually discontinued), allowing for customization based on shooting style and recoil management. At approximately 8.5 pounds, this shotgun offers enough weight to absorb recoil without compromising responsiveness.

Aesthetically, the Lightning Sporting (Grade I) balances functional design with tasteful embellishments. The receiver is inscribed and gold-filled with “Lightning Sporting Clays Edition,” adding a touch of distinction to its otherwise understated Grade I presentation. The stock is crafted from satin-finished walnut with cut checkering, contributing to a firm grip and classic appearance without the ornate flourishes seen on higher-grade models. One of its standout functional features is the triple trigger system, which allows shooters to choose between three trigger shoe styles for optimal finger placement and comfort. Designed to withstand the rigors of competitive shooting while providing enough refinement for enthusiasts, the Citori Lightning Sporting Grade I 12-gauge is a well-balanced, durable, and versatile shotgun that continues to be appreciated by shooters for its reliability, performance, and Browning heritage.
