Item Description

Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this SCARCE semi-automatic pistol for a penny-start auction; this is the Colt Pony Pocketlite!

The Colt Pony Pocketlite was produced by Colt from 1987 to 1997 as part of the Mustang series of compact .380 ACP pistols. While exact production figures are not officially published, collector insights and historical data indicate that the Pocketlite was a relatively low-volume offering compared to other Colt lines, with manufacturing limited to a decade of interest in the era’s lightweight concealed-carry niche. Its short production run—especially the Teflon nickel and stainless versions made briefly from 1997 to 1998—has contributed to its modern desirability among Colt enthusiasts and concealed-carry collectors alike.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Pony Pocketlite, manufactured from 1997 to 1998, is a compact semi-automatic pistol tailored for concealed carry and personal defense. Sharing its lineage with the Government Pocketlite Lightweight model, the Pony Pocketlite differentiates itself through its unique blend of finishes, combining a stainless steel slide with a Teflon-coated nickel alloy frame. This pairing not only gives the pistol a sleek, two-tone appearance but also enhances its corrosion resistance and durability while keeping the overall weight to a minimum. With its lightweight alloy construction, the pistol weighs in at just over 12 ounces unloaded, making it exceptionally easy to carry discreetly. Its slim profile, rounded edges, and 2.75-inch barrel allow for comfortable, snag-free draws from a pocket or holster, ideal for everyday carry.

Functionally, the Colt Pony Pocketlite is chambered in .380 ACP and operates on a locked-breech, short-recoil system, which is relatively rare in compact pistols of this size, many of which rely on blowback mechanisms. This design results in less felt recoil and improved control, allowing for quicker follow-up shots in defensive scenarios. The pistol employs a double-action-only (DAO) trigger system, offering a consistent and deliberate trigger pull with each shot, increasing safety by reducing the likelihood of accidental discharge. It features fixed sights for simplicity and reliability, and its clean, snag-free frame contributes to its concealability and ease of handling. Though only produced for a short period, the Colt Pony Pocketlite has earned a respected place among collectors and concealed carry enthusiasts for its innovative design, premium finish, and dependable performance in a compact form.
