Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt 1911 has served the US military through multiple conflicts and is still popular today with law enforcement, competitors, and recreational shooters. While the design has seen some updates, the basic design and fantastic trigger have remained the same for over a century. This particular variation is from the Colt Custom Shop, known as the "El Series". Lew Horton, the distributor, ordered a limited edition of 1911 variants, chambered for .38 Super, with various trims built on Bright Stainless slides and frames. This particular pistol is a Colt Government Model 1911A1 with a Brite Stainless finish, featuring Gold controls and faux-pearl grip panels with a scrimshawed depiction of a matador.

This limited edition series included about 40 different models, such as the El Jefe, El Coronel, and El Presidente, with only 500 of the El Matadore pistols produced. The pistol is adorned with the marking "El Matadore" on the left side of the slide and "COLT GOVERNMENT" on the right side, with the legally required maker and serial markings on the rest of the pistol. The .38 Super cartridge uses speed, not size, to make a dent in ammunition history. While it may be overshadowed by the .357 Magnum, this caliber adds a nostalgic touch to a firearm like the shiny Colt Custom El Cabo. If you're interested in a new 1911 or a limited edition Colt collection pistol, the El Matadore is a great option.
