The Ruger Police Carbine was a semi-automatic rifle produced by Sturm, Ruger & Co. from 1996 to 2006. Designed as a companion to Ruger's P-series pistols, it was marketed to law enforcement agencies and civilian shooters. The carbine was available in two calibers: 9mm (PC9) and .40 S&W (PC4), both featuring a 16 1/4-inch barrel and a black synthetic stock. The PC9 utilized 15-round magazines compatible with Ruger's P85/89 pistols, while the PC4 used 10-round magazines compatible with the P91 pistol. The Ruger Police Carbine was an early example of a pistol-caliber carbine, designed to offer the advantages of a longer barrel and rifle stock while using the same ammunition and magazines as a service pistol. This compatibility allowed law enforcement officers to streamline their gear and logistics. Despite its robust construction and thoughtful design, the carbine faced challenges in the market.

The rise of AR-15-style rifles and the increasing popularity of polymer-framed pistols led to declining sales, and production ceased in 2006. In 2017, Ruger reintroduced the concept with the Ruger Pistol Caliber Carbine, a modernized version that accepts magazines from Glock, Ruger SR-series, and Security-9 pistols. The new model features a takedown design for easier transport and is chambered in 9mm, with a .40 S&W variant reintroduced in 2019.
