The Remington 870 Special Purpose Turkey (SPS-T) is a dedicated turkey-hunting shotgun that combines the legendary reliability of the Model 870 platform with a range of purpose-driven features designed for superior performance in the field. Designed with the serious turkey hunter in mind, the SPS-T was available in a variety of camouflage finishes to suit different hunting terrains, including Mossy Oak Break-Up (discontinued in 1996 and reintroduced in 2002), Realtree X-tra Brown (produced exclusively in 1997), Greenleaf (discontinued in 1996), and a flat-black option. Discontinued initially in 1999, the SPS-T made a comeback in 2002 and remained in production until 2005. It was offered in both 12-gauge and 20-gauge configurations, chambered to handle both 2 3/4-inch and 3-inch shells, with a choice of 20-inch or 21-inch barrels. The rugged synthetic buttstock and foreend featured checkered grips that provided a secure yet comfortable grip, even in wet or challenging conditions.
