Item Description
Among the rarest of the classic .380 Beretta models, the 86 features a tip-up barrel system actuated by a lever on the right side of the pistol, much like the smaller Jetfire and Tomcat. This system allows the user to skip cycling the slide and place a round directly into the chamber. Otherwise, this pistol is a standard 81-series pistol and takes the same single-stack .380 ACP magazines as the 85.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Beretta Model 86 Cheetah stands out as one of the most coveted pistols in Beretta’s lineup, particularly appealing to collectors and those with specific practical needs. Introduced in 1991 and discontinued in 2004, the Model 86 is distinguished by its unique tip-up barrel design, which facilitates ease of use for individuals with reduced grip strength or dexterity issues. Unlike many other handguns, the tip-up barrel allows the shooter to load a cartridge directly into the chamber without having to manipulate the slide, making it particularly useful for those with older or more fragile hands. Its single-stack magazine design contributes to a slimmer, less bulky profile compared to other models, enhancing its suitability for concealed carry. This feature, combined with the reliable performance and rugged construction typical of Beretta firearms, makes the Model 86 a noteworthy option for both self-defense and as a part of a European handgun collection. Although it was discontinued due to lower demand, its design elements, including reduced recoil and compact size, ensure that it remains a practical choice for those seeking a dependable, easy-to-handle firearm. For anyone considering a pistol with less recoil than a 9mm Parabellum, the Beretta Model 86 Cheetah merits serious consideration for its blend of historical value and functional practicality.
