Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington Model 504 is a bolt-action rimfire rifle introduced by Remington in the early 2000s as a premium successor to the long-running Model 541 series. It was manufactured at the company’s Ilion, New York facility and designed to compete with the likes of the Kimber rimfires and Anschütz sporters, offering a refined fit and finish at a mid-range price point. The 504 featured a machined steel receiver with dual locking lugs, an adjustable trigger, and a 5-round detachable magazine. Standard production included both sporter and target configurations, chambered in .22 Long Rifle, .22 WMR, and .17 HMR, all with free-floated barrels and high-grade walnut or laminated stocks. Its solid construction, accuracy potential, and clean lines made it a favorite among precision rimfire enthusiasts. Despite its promising design, the Model 504 saw a relatively short production life, discontinued after only a few years due to high production costs and mixed market reception. Early units sometimes exhibited inconsistent accuracy linked to stock bedding and barrel torque, issues later improved in the refined 504T (Target) variant. Today, the Model 504 is appreciated for its build quality and represents a transitional era for Remington before the introduction of newer models like the 547 and 504 Custom Shop rifles. For collectors and shooters alike, a clean, original 504—especially in less common chamberings or target configurations—remains a desirable example of Remington’s attempt to blend traditional craftsmanship with modern rimfire precision.
