Caliber - .22 Long Rifle, double-action revolver built on the square butt stainless K target frame with 3 screws. A stainless steel version very similar to the Model 17 full lug. 6-shot fluted clinder with a nominal length of 1.62". 4", 6-inch or 8-3/8" full lug ribbed barrel, straight 10 groove serrated backstrap and forestrap, 312" smooth combat or 400" serrated trigger, smooth combat wood grips with S&W medallions, 375" semi-target or 500 target hammer, pinned Patridge front sight with micrometer click adjustable rear sight. 4" and 6-inch variations are also found without the full lug in limited production in 1991 as a special for Ashland Shooting Supplies. In 1996 Smith & Wesson introduced an aluminum alloy 10-shot fluted cylinder variation with a nominal length of 1.62", Built on the Stainless Steel K target round butt frame w/ Hogue rubber Grips with the S&W monogram. Features: Stainless Steel 6-inch Full lug Barrel, 375" semi-target hammer, .312 smooth combat trigger, drilled and tapped for scope mount. 1/8" Pinned Black Patridge front sight with micrometer click adjustable rear sight, new MIM thumbpiece. 10 groove serrated backstrap and forestrap. Reintroduced in October 1997 with an all stainless steel 10-shot cylinder due to poor sales with the alloy cylinder. One very special Model 617 was made with a 6" slabside style barrel cut for scope mount with an alloy cylinder by the Performance Center for a customer as a prototype but not put into production, s/n IMS2002. This rare one-of a kind variation has the Performance Center trademark on the frame with a Patridge Dovetail front sight. Produced circa 1989-date.
