Here's a Winchester Model 1886 Limited Edition takedown rifle that is chambered for the .45-90 Winchester cartridge. This rifle was manufactured in 2004 and is one of 500 made. It wears a 26" octagon barrel with sporting sights and a full length magazine tube. This rifle is very similar to the original Winchester '86 but has the added security of a tang mounted safety. Beautifully blued, is fitted with walnut stocks and has a steel crescent buttplate. The barrel is marked "Cal. .45-90 Black Powder Only" this is merely because the .45-90 is not normally loaded with smokeless powder. The 1886 is a very strong design and easily able to handle appropriate smokeless charges. It's also good to know that standard .45-70 ammo can be fired in the .45-90 chamber (kind of like a .38 Special in a .357 Magnum).
